I am Lawrence Ng from North Toronto Chinese Baptist Church. In the last three months, I attended the smartphone evangelism program of Toronto Short Term Mission Training Centre. The main reason for me taking this training is to have the opportunity to spread the gospel with brothers and sisters using phone calls. I haven’t tried that before and I am not sure if it is practical. In fact, the training gives us the opportunity and courage to call to the stores around our church neighbourhood. By God’s grace, I am able to talk to the staff at some stores over the phone, even though it could be a very short conversation but our team does have the chance to have a prayer with the staff of the store.
In some cases, it allows us to do some follow up like dropping face masks, and hand sanitizer to them, in order to establish the ongoing relationship. This reminds me to think of 2 Timothy 4:2 ‘Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season’. I may doubt at the beginning if this way is possible but God shows me that He makes all channels be possible. It is more important that my heart be ready to be used by God by all means, we can use phone calls or even just WhatsApp messages to spread the Gospel. It turned out that more brothers and sisters are now mobilized to outreach to our neighbours using phone calls. There is one of the most memorable experience during the last few months using phone or even messaging media. A few weeks ago, I was able to WhatsApp with my relative to open up some conversation about my faith. Then something happened to her dad and I was able to share the gospel with her over the WhatsApp message. By God’s grace, her whole family was saved on the same day at the hospital when our pastor visited her dad. Praise to our Lord! May God’s name be glorified!
