JLT sharing – Toby

Toby Tso——Markham Grace Chinese Church of the Nazarene

Most grateful experience

I am most grateful for the opportunities I had to share the love of Christ with people who were open and willing to listen. Even though many people passed by quickly, there were moments when someone stopped, asked questions, or even just received prayer. Those encounters reminded me that God is always at work, even in small seeds planted. I am thankful for the fellowship with other believers too as it gave me courage and reminded me that I am not alone in this mission.

Not so grateful experience

The part that was harder for me was facing rejection. Many people did not want to engage at all, some brushed past without eye contact, and a few were dismissive. At first, it was discouraging because I felt like I was not making an impact. But I realized that this is part of missionary work — not everyone is ready to receive, and my role is simply to be faithful in sharing.

What I learned and can practice in daily life

This experience taught me patience and perseverance.

I learned that evangelism is not about results I can see, but about obedience to God’s calling. Even a smile, a kind word, or offering prayer can be a powerful testimony. In my daily life, I can practice being bold in small ways starting spiritual conversations with friends, showing kindness to strangers, and not being afraid to share my faith. I also learned to rely more on prayer before and during outreach, something I can continue to do every day.

Something to pray for

I have learned firsthand how difficult and hard this type of work is, especially for newcomers or those that are not used to missionary work, so I would like to continue to pray for those that are in this line of work to be able to spread the gospel and reach the hearts of nonbelievers.
