I became one of those with negative assets during the 1997 financial turmoil and experienced a sudden change of having nothing overnight. My heart could not resolve the pain, and the only way out was to seek death or become a “vagrant”. During this time, I saw the news about “vagrants” and learned that some have unique painful experiences. Some were barristers, entrepreneurs, stars, singers, rich people, celebrities, etc. It turned out that some of them had experienced significant blows, such as financial, emotional, marriage, family, etc., problems, that they had been traumatized or had nowhere to go, and had become “vagrants” of homeless, cold, and starving!
I once had the idea of wanting to be a vagrant, and I understood the pain and impatience of those people’s hearts. I thank the Lord Jesus for saving me from suffering and avoiding the tragedy of “wandering”. Therefore, I have compassion and sympathy for the vagrants. I want to lead them to believe in Jesus; just like myself, I could experience the salvation of Jesus and detach from trouble to receive salvation!
What to do when I meet a “vagrant”:
- Purchase food and drink first, give them to them politely, and talk to them with a caring heart.
- In winter, I will prepare some clothes, gloves, scarves, hats, socks, etc., for them in advance.
- When waiting for the traffic lights and at the same time encountering a vagrant holding a sign for help, I will give them a dollar and a tract of salvation and say, “Lord Jesus loves you.”
For actions 1 and 2 above, I will explain to them about “salvation” and introduce a suitable church. Then, if I have the opportunity, I will share my testimony of Jesus saving me.
Some brothers and sisters also have the heart to preach the gospel to the “vagrant” but lack courage. You can ask the Lord Jesus to use you and give you strength & courage.
Remember the following 4 points, and you will experience the “Great Power of God’s Gospel.”
- You must pray that the Lord Jesus will send you and give you power & authority. (ref. Romans 10:15 / Matthew 28:18-20)
- Ask the Holy Spirit to guide the gospel target and give you courage, eloquence, and wisdom. (ref. Ephesians 6:19 / Acts 10:44)
- When preaching the gospel, knowing in your heart that the Lord Jesus will walk with you and rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you will have enough confidence and courage.
- One must have the will to preach and prepare “gospel tools” ready to use daily.
Proverbs 3:27: “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. ”
Luke 4:18 Jesus said, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed.”
